What to have ready when you call
A minute of detail on the phone saves time at the door. These are the things we will ask about:
- The street address and the closest cross street or gate code
- What you see or hear: water where, how much, which fixtures are affected
- When it started, and whether anything changed right before, like a freeze or new work
- Where the main water shut-off is, if you know (often near the street, by the meter, or in the garage)
- The age and fuel of the water heater, if the call is about hot water
If water is running right now
Close the main shut-off first. On many slab homes in this area it is a valve where the line enters the house, or in a box near the curb that opens with a meter key. If the leak is on the hot side or at the water heater, close the cold inlet valve on top of the tank and turn the gas control to off or switch off the heater's breaker.
Stay away from outlets, power strips and appliances near standing water. If water is reaching anything electrical, shut off that circuit at the panel only if you can reach the panel from a dry spot. Then call, and we will stay on the line while you work through it. On the busiest nights, a call may be forwarded to another trusted local plumber so you are not left waiting.
If you smell gas
Leave the house first. Don't flip switches, light anything or start a car in an attached garage. Once you are outside and away from the house, call CenterPoint Energy's gas emergency line, then call us. The utility makes the area safe; we find and repair the leak on your side of the meter and run the pressure test needed before service can be restored.

Questions
Questions about reaching us
We take jobs by phone only. A short call lets us ask the right questions, talk you through shutting off water or gas, and send someone with the right parts.
A person answers, asks what is going on, helps with any shut-off, and gives you a realistic window for a plumber. Night calls get the same process as daytime ones.
We can explain what a job usually involves, but the price comes after a plumber sees the problem. The same leak can be a quick fitting or a reroute, and we would rather tell you accurately than guess.
Someone over 18 needs to let us in and approve the work. For rentals and businesses, a manager or tenant with permission is fine; let us know who will meet the plumber.
